LEARN TO SAIL

Don't know how to sail but want to learn?

This is the event for you!! Every fall, we hold Learn to Sail weekends where you (and your friends!!) can sign up to learn the basics of sailing. Sounds interesting? Sign up to be notified about our next fundraiser.

Who are we?

The McGill University Sailing Team (MUST) is a competitive, student-led sports club with McGill University Athletics & Recreation in Montréal, Canada.

McGill University was among the schools who competed in 1937 at the first ever intercollegiate sailing regatta. Since then, we've been avidly racing and hosting regattas out of Montréal. MUST consistently ranks within the top 3 teams in Canada year after year, having also sent qualifying students to join the CICSA National Team who competes at various FISU (International University Sports Federation) regattas.

To join the team, we require sailing experience, however, frequently take sailors with little or no racing backgrounds.

SOME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do we sail?

Our primary season is in the fall from September to November, where we compete throughout both the CICSA (Canadian InterCollegiate Sailing Association) and NEISA (New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association) circuits. In the spring season, sailors can opt-in to participate on a case-by-case basis. Though we are not a varsity team, we compete at the varsity level throughout Canada and the USA.

What do we sail on?

The team practices at Pointe-Claire Yacht Club in our own fleet of 12 z420s. Though most college sailing regattas are sailed in 420s or FJs, we can also send sailors to a variety of keelboat, singlehanded, team race, and match racing events throughout the season.

What's the team dynamic like?

Social events are an important part of team life. Throughout the year, we have fundraisers, "family nights," and an annual ski trip in early January. Off season, we stay active and competitive by playing intramural ice hockey, water polo, and attending morning fitness.
